Anyone on here set up their own Finance Consultancy firm or work for one...
Is there a market for it nowadays or has the sourcing for contractors moved in house nowadays? Thinking of a one stop shop for all Banking Operational needs....

I work in a Compliance/AML role for an investment company. We had a consultant come in in 2017 for about six months, on close to a grand a day.

He was incredibly incompetent. So it can't be that hard to get into the busines.

One of the best bits of advice is to make sure you can survive (on your savings) for at least 18 months (not always because you might have to - it gives you wriggle-room for a proper break) if moving into contracting. I was lucky insofar as my area never seems to stop expanding, others may be more cyclic.

The more "general" your skillset, the more chance you'll have of jumping across disciplines & domains.

Also, if you can, don't restrict yourself to one city/country; it's a big, wide world out there.

Go for it mate, I did the leap 6-7 years ago and not looked back. A lot of decent help and advice on WHO at the time to be honest, it helped me make my mind up and do it. Best of luck

Yep, I’m a Change PM in the insurance markets, it’s quiet there. There is a lot of specialist roles for sme’s, but I’ve been out for 2-3 weeks now.

Steven P doesn't even have full bladder control. I don't think he's qualified to advise anyone on anything.

Is this a sort of Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme pyramid thingy, where do I sign up?

Interesting comments here from someone who is about to look at contract work after nearly 40 years for one company, 20 in the risk/lending environment... it feels like a minefield after being with same company for so long !

Huge market for it in any financial centre.

I have quite a few working in my teams at the moment. Quality is variable and some pretty average people out there at the moment on 600 a day. Some of our best are 2k per day which is similar day card rate for senior manager at any one of the main consultancies.

The banks are so keen to complete their remediation programmes right now they will pay up and far easier to bring in flexible contract resource than scale up their own teams.

If you are looking specially at banking ops then most firms will be in the midst of large scale transformation programmes which will be focussed on automation. The hottest market is for those with these skills or aml.

Interesting you say that contracting's quiet at the moment - for 18 months I've been trying to find a Technical Writer to sit alongside me producing all sorts of telecom based documents for people who's first language is not English (including Americans in that),

Always a requirement in the City/CW Steven, although general contracting is quiet at the moment, there is always a need due to M&A’s and compliance reqts etc.

What’s your specialism?

There must be a market for it

A lot of banking requirements are handled in-house these days but there must be a market out there with the size of some of the recruitment firm.

With consultancies, again, look at the success of Capco
